WHAT IS OUTRIDE?

Outride is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth through cycling.

THROUGH RESEARCH, SCHOOL-BASED CYCLING PROGRAMS, AND MATCHING COMMUNITY GRANTS, OUTRIDE HARNESSES THE BENEFITS OF CYCLING FOR THE COGNITIVE, SOCIO-EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING OF YOUTH WHILE ALSO HELPING TO CULTIVATE INCLUSIVE CYCLING COMMUNITIES.

Since 2014, Outride has partnered with 200 schools and granted $1M+ to over 100 cycling programs, impacting over 50,000 youth annually. Outride’s mission is to increase access to cycling for young people so that every kid can experience the freedom, joy, and community that riding a bike can provide.

What We Believe

  • Cycling has a positive impact on cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being.

  • Bikes have the power to bring people together and strengthen communities.

  • Community power comes from connection, opportunity, and access.

  • Local communities are best positioned to advance local change.

Our Vision

A world where cycling is as widespread and accessible as going to the library.

Our programs create pathways for riders of all backgrounds to access and benefit from a strong, healthy, and vibrant local cycling ecosystem.

No bike deserts + connected pathways for rider engagement from youth to adult.

We are focused and committed to connecting communities with new resources and support. We seek to be not only a partner but a platform for their visibility, confidence, and success.

What We Do

RESEARCH

Institutional and applied research empowers Outride and its supporters to better understand how riding a bike can affect our brains. Through the continuation of this work, we learn how riding a bike impacts how we think, feel, and behave.

RIDING FOR FOCUS (R4F)

Riding for Focus is our school-based cycling education program, which uses cycling as a tool to promote physical, emotional, and social well-being in youth. Currently available in North America, the program is designed to provide middle schools with everything they need to get their 6th-8th grade students riding, including bikes, helmets, starter maintenance equipment, and training.

OUTRIDE FUND

Through community matching grants, the Outride Fund cultivates inclusive and thriving cycling communities that increase access to and help sustain involvement in youth cycling across the US. Past grants include bike cooperatives, rider education and skill development programs, earn-a-bike programs, bike trails & parks, skills & pump track projects.

Bicycles have the power to make lives better beyond winning races — They bring people and communities together, motivate us to become better humans, and help us take advantage of what the world has to offer. At Outride, we are committed to breaking down barriers so that all kids have access to bicycles and safe places to ride. We believe that bicycles not only have the ability to improve the health of our youth, but also bring the power of opportunity, agency, and freedom to those who have access to the power of two wheels.
